Mini Memory Game Tutorial

I made this little memory game as part of our little girls birthday pressie and loved making it because it is so quick and easy to whip up. They make a fantastic birthday presents or you could even make them as party favours or better yet have your child’s birthday guests make their own set to take home, show off and play with!

Supplies:
  • 1.5 inch Mini wooden disks (I got mine from My Heartfelt Designs)
  • Black ink pad
  • Clear stamps
  • Clear stamp block
  • Spray varnish
  • Scrap paper/newspaper
Step 1. Remove your clear rubber stamp from it’s sheet and press onto the clear block, the imprint should be facing toward you.

Step 2. Press the stamp onto the ink pad to get an even coat of ink on the stamp.

Step 3. Position inked stamp over the top of your wooden disc as desired (because the stamp is clear this is much easier to do than using wooden stamps)

Step 4 Press stamp down firmly and evenly.
Step 5. Lift stamp upwards without shifting sideways as you lift as this can smear the ink on the wooden disc.

Step 6. Re-ink your stamp and repeat above two steps to make a second disk in the same design.

Step 7. Clean your rubber stamp using tissues and replace on stamp sheet.

Repeat steps 1-7 for each design you wish to use (I recommend using 8 different designs for your memory game which will yield 16 discs although you can use more!)

Step 8. Put your stamped discs on scrap paper and take outside. Spray the discs with spray varnish as per varnish instructions. Allow discs to dry.

Step 9. Flip discs over and spray the opposite side of discs with varnish, allow to dry.

Step 10. Have fun playing with your handmade little game of memory!!!

EDIT:  Stamps I used are Autumn Leaves - Mindy's Zoo by Mindy Terasawa found here and Little Yellow Bicycle - Baby safari collection (Both stamp sets may not be available now as I purchased them over 2 years ago).  You can buy clear stamps online here and here.

What a great idea for a child's gift! Longer lasting and easier than playing cards.

This is such a great idea.
What an excellent tutorial on how to make these.
I always like seeing what wonderful things that people create from the little wooden pieces that they purchase from me. Thanks for sharing your delightful idea!

OMGosh these are so cute!! They look like something you would find in a boutique...and the great thing is you can customize the images to whatever your little one likes and nobody else on the block will have them :)

I love these! I bought a set off etsy and my boys thought they were great. Would love to make some but just wonder where you get the clear stamps from?

Thanks so much for these instructions!

I have just finished making two sets to put inside christmas crackers for my nieces. Instead of the box for storage made two tube shaped drawstring bags so they would fit neatly inside the cracker tube. :)

Thank you for the brilliant idea!

Here is a pic of them waiting to be varnished:
