Ladies Swing Pocket Skirt

When I released of the Girls Swing Pocket Skirt I had so many people request a ladies version.  I am excited to announce the Ladies version has been created and it made its debut at the Houston Quilt Market 2016 recently.

The Ladies Swing Pocket skirt will have you stepping out in style. This beautiful skirt features a drop waist with comfortable elastic back. Ric Rac detailing and asymmetrical pockets swing freely from the waist and hip to complete this eye catching skirt.

One of the major requirements I had when creating this pattern (thanks to your lovely feedback) is that it would cater to the 'tweens'.  The Ladies Swing Pocket Skirt comes in a variety of sizes:   XS, S, SM, M, ML, L (Australian size 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18) and the elastic back makes it perfect to adjust if required.

One of my favourite things about sewing is that different fabrics can give you a completely different look.  I love this fabric Fantine by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake Designs  from the 2016 collection.

Below I used Posy Garden by Carina Gardner also for Riley Blake designs.
I am so happy with this pattern and hope you like it as much as me!

You can find the Ladies Swing Pocket Skirt pattern available in many stares across Australia and overseas.

The Ladies Swing Pocket Skirt is also available for wholesale through Creative Abundance,  or Checker distributors in the US

If you make this or any of my Clare's Place patterns I would love to see them :)

More 'Balancing Elephants' Messenger Bags

Are you looking for a project to sew on these cold winter days?  Well I thought I would show you more kids messenger bags I made using my 'Balancing Elephants' pattern .

I love how different fabrics make projects look so very different.

This beautiful fabric is from Australian designers : Umbrella Prints

The green one was a gift for my brothers baby boy.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

If you would like to purchase a copy of this pattern check out my list of stockists here or ask you local quilt store to get one in for you!

Happy sewing :)

Australian Quilt Market

Well what an amazing weekend I have had!  For the past little while I have been sewing samples and writing/editing patterns to be released at the Australian Quilt Market in Melbourne.  I must admit I was especially excited to attend this year as I am feeling more comfortable doing the whole market thing and given that I was sharing a booth with my pattern distributor the wonderful Creative Abundance team meant I didn't have a whole booth to fill (although I could easily do that with the size of my quilts ;p) and I didn't have to process all the orders meaning less work for me, yeah!  Hubby even decided to surprise be by coming too so we could have some time together for a change.  He was also the muscle helping to construct shelves and hang my quilts for display.

The other SUPER EXCITING part for me was knowing that the lovely Cindy from Riley Blake Designs and her beautiful daughter Riley would be in attendance.  (You might remember six months earlier I met Bret from Riley Blake at AQM Sydney?)  I was terribly nervous to meet them both (I'm sure they could tell in my voice) but they are so incredibly sweet and friendly!

It was wonderful to be able to show them some of the things I have created with their beautiful fabrics and be able to get to know them a better.  Check out their booth - all you would expect from Riley Blake Designs - Fabulous!

Now every pattern designer has their favourite fabrics and products to use but for me I LOVE Riley Blake fabrics (they kinda got me hooked on All Star at the beginning).  I love the quality, feel, designs and colours of their materials which is why many of my designs are made using their fabrics including my latest designs.  I can't recommend them enough!

At Quilt Market I released two new patterns which I will spotlight in the next few days:  Carnival made from the Pieces of Hope fabric range by The RBD Designers which also has been to the American Trade show with the Riley Blake crew (still spinning from the thought that they used my quilt in their beautiful displays).

And Balancing Elephants, which is a childrens messenger bag, which includes three variations all using Riley Blake fabrics and Sew Together Ric Rac.

It was a great show and I was able to meet all the Creative Abundance crew Jodie from Ric raC, Claire from Matching Pegs, Rosalie Quinlan from Rosalie Quinlan Designs, Melly from Melly and Me, Simone of May Blossoms and Fiona from Two Brown Birds).  I will give you a tour around out booth later too!  I was also able to catch up with other lovely friends like Gail Pan, Sue Daley, Katherine from F.D Textiles, Lenora JenkinsNikki Tervo and very briefly Natalie Lymer.

I had a blast though was glad to return to my two sick babies who were being lovingly cared for by my wonderful mum - thanks heaps mum!

Love With All Your Heart

I am excited to release a new pattern from Clares Place.  These cushions made it into the August 2011 Homespun issue and I am excited to now be able to release them to you.

Cushions are a great way to brighten any room and this set of four will do just that!
The unique embroidery and applique designs are easy to sew and would look equally beautiful in fresh and funky fabrics or vintage prints.

Why not make one or more as a gift for a treasured friend or team them with the Jaynes Love quilt.

I really enjoyed making these cushions because making something on a smaller scale (although I will ALWAYS love making quilts) was a quick rewarding project.
These cushions now live with my wonderful sister in law teamed with her Jaynes Love quilt and I am told they look fantastic together.

So Sweet Quilt Pattern

So Sweet took me quite some time to write but is a fun and easy sew.
The finished size is 57” x 61” (145 cm x 155 cm) which makes it the perfect size for a throw.

I love all of my quilts – but for different reasons.  Aside from ‘So Sweet’ being made in my two favourite colours, I love, Love, LOVE it for the tight paisley quilting that matches the paisley fabrics that really makes the quilt that extra bit special.  (I think this quilt was the first to be quilted this tightly by sarah?! – I may be wrong).
“So sweet is a beginning quilters dream, with no challenging angles or intricate piecing.  The blocks are large enough to showcase some of the fabulous large-scale prints or even story-book designs which would overpower a smaller pieced block. It is a great quilt to feature some treasured fat quarters from your stash or larger remnants from previous favourite projects. This quickly-made project is sure to be enjoyed for years to come.”

Clares Place New Patterns and AQM winner

While at quilt market I ran a draw to win a Clares Place Pattern Pack that includes a copy of each of my new patterns - which I am aware have not yet made it onto the blog (or website) as yet so before I reveal the winner of the pattern pack let me introduce the patterns released at market:
Spinning Wheels
Avonleigh Country Quilting (a lovely new stockist of Clares Place Patterns) took a photo of my booth at AQM  with 'Spinning Wheels' in the background. Head over to their blog to check out their Market recap or stop into their store to have a Chat with the lovely Sharon and Kay to pick yourself up a pattern (or two ;p )

Rubies for Grandma
 One of a Kind

So Sweet
 Chloe Bag
So named because when talking about the Sarah bag Chloe would exclaim "and Doie bag too!" - I couldn't name one after Sarah and not have one named after Chloe!

I will give you a formal introduction to each new pattern later - you have already met the:
Sarah Bag

Bunting Bliss

And now the winner of the Clares Place Pattern Pack as drawn by Chloe:

I will be in contact shortly to get you the new patterns.

Quilt market was a heap of fun but I must admit it is SO nice being home getting back to everyday life and able to enjoy my two little ones for a bit.  Seriously it has been 8 weeks since Sarah was born!  Where did that go?!  I blinked and my new born is now not so ‘new’.
I hope you get to do the things that you love!

Ps.  Be sure to check out my stockists page for my lovely new stockists!

A not so sneaky peek

At the Sarah Bag.  This pattern will be officially released at quilt market but I thought you might like to have a "not so sneaky peek" at it now.

After designing, testing and writing the pattern for this bag (and another yet to be released) I admire other designers who design, make and write patterns for bags (just as I do Quilt patterns).  There is seriously so much work that goes into each and every pattern to make sure the instructions are correct it fits together perfectly.  So with that said lets have another look (or two) at the bag.

Do you think it's his style?

My mum made these two bags with fabrics that I gave her from my stash.  She did such a fantastic job of them both!

Fabrics for yellow bag :
Night and Day  Flower Burst in Yellow by Robert Kaufman # 10937
Impressions Wave in Grey by Ty Pennington for Free Spirit #TY 03
Impressions Lace in Grey by Ty Pennington for Free Spirit # TY 04
All the above purchased from The Little Fabric Shop

Fabrics for pink bag:
Kumari Garden Jeevan in pink by Dena Designs for Free Spirit # DF92 purchased from The Little Fabric Shop

Green Ta Dot for Michael Miller Purchased from Sisters and Quilters
the Blue is from the Just Dreamy fabric range by Riley Blake and was left over from my Baby 123 quilt and will be hard to find but I did find some here if you are quick!

Until next post I will be working on Quilt Market Prep and hopefully getting some sleep
... if Sarah lets me ;p

Spinning Wheels

As promised I have some more sneak peeks to a quilt I call spinning wheels.  It was made using Amy Butler Soul Blossoms fabrics and is a bright fresh and fun quilt.

The lovely Sarah Fraser of Patchworks Plus quilted this quilt in circles of various sizes and it has come up a treat!  Love it!

All photos are courtesy of my niece.

Stay tuned for pattern releases :)
